Here’s the thing, right now, you might be thinking, “Do I really need the best plunger for a toilet?” and the answer is yes, because there is nothing worse than having a sub-par toilet plunger when it comes to unclogging a toilet.

Sure, you could go with the cheapest toilet plunger (we will show you which is the cheapest plunger), but the best toilet plunger can be the difference between fighting with a toilet all night and getting the job done in under a minute. So let’s dive into the toilet… err…. let’s try that again.

Let’s find you the best toilers plungers. That’s better.

How we selected the best toilet plunger

There are a lot of things to consider when selecting the different types of toilet plungers (weird, right?). But the way we look at it. Everyone should be able to use it if needed (even kids). So here are the criteria we came up with:

  • Ease of use
  • Design and appearance
  • Functionality
  • Personal Experience
  • 2-day delivery available through Amazon Prime Benefits (we don’t want to wait two weeks for a plunger to arrive)

There are many good toilet plungers, but the best plunger for the toilet bowl can easily make a seal around the drain of the toilet bowl. That seal helps create pressure to force the debris through the trap and down into the pipes.

What does a toilet plunger cost?

This was mind-blowing. A quick search on Amazon for toilet plungers and the prices ranged from around the $7 mark all the way up to $100 or so.

Let’s be honest if a plunger costs me a hundred dollars, it better have a monkey that pops out of a cage and unclogs the toilet for me—more on whether or not the most expensive toilet plunger has a monkey in a minute.

What features should I look for on a plunger?

WOW! You are a thorough person. I would look for a good handle—something that can be easily manipulated and one that has a flange. (We’re all about the flange at Millennial Homeowner. It’s not our jam, but it’s close).

Another important thing is storage. You may not want to have the plunger out in the open, but you will want somewhere to put it immediately after you are done with it, and it’s still wet. Otherwise, you’re dripping on the floor. Whether that is a storage that comes with it or an old ice cream pail, it’s up to you.

The 10 Best Plungers for Toilets

Stainless Steel Modern Deluxe Toilet Plunger and Bowl Brush Combo

What we like about it:

The stainless steel combo setup is nice. The stainless steel gives a nice polished look to the duo for something that you would rather keep out of sight; this one, you won’t mind it being out.

The design is really nice, and you can tell there is a lot of thought that goes into this product. They have taken a normal thing that you would normally keep hidden in a closet and made it something you don’t mind if someone notices. Any type of hideaway toilet plunger is nice because you don’t have to find another place to put it.

They’ve even gone so far as to make a video for this toilet plunger and brush combo. You can see that video here.

What we don’t:

As far as rubber plungers go, this one is a little pricier, but you get a nicer display and a brush with it.

Professional Bellows Accordion Toilet Plunger

What we like about it:

This accordion plunger has been a great one to use. The narrow plunger cup allows it to fit in the drain and form a good seal so you can force the clog out and get water flowing again.  This accordion toilet plunger has a nice grip-able handle that makes it easy to manipulate, and simply put; it can handle any clog.

It’s an Amazon Choice product, and it has 344 ratings and a 4.2-star rating. For the price point, it’s a solid find. It’s also got a good flange (remember, all about the flange), and that means a lot to us.

What we don’t:

It’s not the prettiest looking thing (not like I’m one to talk), but if you want to leave it out because your toilet has a small trap, then you may want to opt for something nicer looking. There’s also no drip tray and when you use a plunger you will need something to catch the water afterwards. It’s also bright blue, which is very obvious in most bathrooms.

Heavy Duty Toilet Plunger by Sofinni

What we like about it:

This is classified as a heavy-duty plunger. Which spurs up a whole bunch of thing we would rather not think of (for some reason cleaning a hoarders house comes to mind). It’s a straightforward design, with a rubber plunger cup.  If that is what you are looking for in a plunger, then this one is it. It’s a decent price point as well.

What we don’t like:

The look is very basic, but its claims seem legit; my concern with this style was always having the handle fall off and finding a way to put it back on that wasn’t completely gross. This one has under 50 reviews, so it’s hard to evaluate.

ToiletShroom Revolutionary Plunger

What we like about it:

This is a different take on the normal way to plunge a toilet. This one works like an auger by pushing out the clogs. That way, you aren’t forcing it through, and I would imagine it makes less mess. I’ll admit at first glance, I wasn’t sure about this, but with over 300 reviews and a near 4-star rating (it’s 3.9 to be exact), it must work well. It also has a stylish caddy for storing so it can be left out. Though the look on your guest’s faces should they ever see may leave them wondering.

What we don’t:

Everything about it looks legit, but like all new ideas, there is a bit of drag to give it a try. Especially if the clog happens to be out of reach of the handle.  For the price, it’s a solid find.

Toilet Plunger with Holder by simplehuman

What we like about it:

This simplehuman toilet plunger puts an elegant design and a holder that you don’t mind leaving out. There is also has a nice stainless steel handle which was missing on some of the other models we saw. The simplehuman toilet plunger has a long flange (if that sort of thing is important to you), so it’s designed to work more efficiently with modern toilets. Of course, the drip tray is nice to have as well.

With its 900 ratings and 4.7-star review on Amazon, it’s a solid find. This leads us to think this one is doing exactly what it needs to, and people like it enough to review it.

What we don’t:

Price was it’s a little higher than its competitors but still within range of being affordable for the problem it solves.

Toilet Plunger and Bowl Brush Combo by Mr. Siga

What we like about it:

It’s a more unique and compact design for a plunger/ brush duo. The black rubber cup is nice since it won’t show the dirt or any staining that will occur.

The toilet plunger and caddy combo look nice enough to leave out but small enough that you could put it in a closet without taking up too much room. The brush is a nice addition to remove toilet mold or anything else you are scrubbing. The dual drip tray is nice to have. The plunger cup is a normal size that should fit most toilets, if you have a wider toilet trap then you may want a toilet plunger with a different type of toilet plunger.

What we don’t:

The handle gets narrower towards the base, and it makes me wonder how strong the plastic is and if it will hold up to the rigors; given the reviews, this toilet plunger should be ok.

Liquid-Plumr Toilet Plunger with Caddy

What we like:

This handle means business. It also has a drip tray for storage which is nice because once you pull a plunger out of the toilet, your next thought is, “what about the toilet water that is dripping all over my floor.” It’s ok; we all have that thought.

They also have enough confidence in this product to make a video about the suction cup and how it all works. You can check out the plunging video here. My first thought in watching this was, “Who didn’t replace the toilet paper?!!!!??” Dare you to watch it and not think that.

All kidding aside, it looks like a decent toilet plunger, and merits being on our best toilet plungers list.

What we don’t:

This toilet plungers handle may not be for everyone, plus you have to pull out the flange, which is a no-go for me (I’m not touching the end of the plunger, and that’s that). If you don’t mind, then the attractive price may make it a good one for you.

Luigi’s The World’s Best Toilet Plunger

What we like about it:

I’m just going to let my Nintendo freak flag fly for a second. Whoever finally named a plumbing product with a Super Mario Brothers name (aka Luigi) is genius. Ok, I’m good. This one has a nice stand, and when you get the accordion part of the plunger out of the way, it seems quite artsy (keep in mind I know nothing about art, but apparently a lot about Super Mario). It comes with a money-back guarantee, has over 600 ratings on Amazon.

What we don’t:

Not all of the ratings are great (insert the sound of Mario dying in Super Mario Bros.,… ok, I’ll stop now…), and it’s floating around a 3.5 star at the time of writing this. A good portion is 1 star.

Modern Deluxe Freestanding Stainless Steel Toilet Plunger

What we like about it:

Another product from Toilet Tree (it’s like they specialize in the bathroom or something ;)) that is a nice looking yet functional plunger. It fits in out-of-the-way places, so it’s not too visible should you leave it out. The design is nice, the stainless steel handle and suction cup look great and it’s corrosion-resistant.

What we don’t:

Not too much here not to like; it seems like a solid plunger model. The 4.1 Stars and over 300 ratings make it a good solid product.

Chrome Vented Toilet Plunger and Canister Holder

What we like about it:

Made by Home Intuition (which is a great name), this is my personal favorite appearance-wise. It doesn’t look like a toilet plunger which is great. That way, you can leave it out and not gross-out visitors.

Does it scream, “I’m so beautiful! Leave me in the living room for all to adore me.“?

No. Plungers can’t talk, let alone scream—what a silly question.

But I do really like how this one looks.

(Pro Millennial Tip:  A toilet plunger in the living room (or any room in the house) is not an art piece, it’s just gross).

What we don’t:

The lid being on the handle could be problematic depending on the water situation and where you normally grab a plunger. Functionally it looks like it will do the trick, but the lid could cause a problem. While the exterior is shiny, I could also see it getting dirty easily.

Other Honorable (or not) Toilet Plunger Mentions

What is the cheapest toilet plunger?

This was the cheapest toilet plunger. You’ve likely seen it before in every home since the dawn of the toilet. It works, but it feels like it was designed about 10 minutes after Sir Thomas Crapper invented the toilet. Seriously… how many poop jokes can you make from that setup. Anyway, back to the seriousness of plungers, this is the most common one and is the cheapest on Amazon. As far products go, this is likely the one you are most familiar with.

Funniest Toilet Plunger

The funniest plunger is the shotgun toilet plunger. Kudos to the people who made this. It took a really simple idea and gave it some flair.  It, and I quote, “also makes shotgun sounds and stands upright just like a normal plunger!

It has a 4-star rating and strikes me as more of a gag gift than anything else.  You can see the details here.

This toilet plunger was our runner-up for the funniest toilet plunger. It’s a little on the nose humor wise but…. well… it’s accurate.

The most expensive toilet plunger

While the funniest toilet plunger came close, this one was the most expensive. While it looks very similar to other lower-priced ones, I can’t see why it would be so much. Also, I checked, and no monkey comes with it to plunge your toilet. Which means I’ll be sticking with the one I have.

Which Toilet Plungers We Would Avoid

Air Drain Blaster

What we like about it:

Ok, let’s get to it; this looks like a plunger that Bruce Willis character from Die Hard would have created. It’s unique, creative, and it’s hard not to want it when you see it. I’m thinking about clogging my toilet just to try this (sorry that came out a little grosser than it sounded in my head). It can be used on 4 types of drains ( sink, toilet, floor, and bathtub drains) and pushes compressed air to unclog the toilet or other drains.

What we don’t:

The star rating on Amazon is in the 3’s, and it only has 50 ratings, which leaves me thinking that this one, while innovative and cool, may not work as well as the others.  Also, to make the compressed air, you have to pump the handle, so it adds a step to the plunging process that really isn’t needed.  Still, if you are looking for something new to try in the bathroom (no judging, you do you), then this may be your plunger.

SurePlunge Automatic Toilet Plunger

What we like about it:

This toilet plunger is an interesting take on an old problem. Using the air pressure could be good for people who don’t want to pump the toilet for an hour trying to dislodge things. It comes with a stand, which is always a plus.

What we don’t:

“Honey, the toilet drains clogged.”

“Shoot, we’re out of CO2 cartridges.”

“Guess I’ll go to the store and gets some; where do you buy them again?”

Nuff said.

What is the best toilet plunger?

If I had to pick one, and I did, because I’m a human that has a toilet. This would be my go-to one. Keep in mind I have the accordion one, but if I wanted another one (because hey! who doesn’t want another plunger), This toilet plunger would meet what I was looking for; it looks nice enough and has a good solid amount of reviews on Amazon. If I wasn’t going to leave it out, this would be my choice, but it would get locked in a closet faster than Harry Potter staying with his aunt and uncle.
