About Dropps
Dropps was developed in honor of a mother-son duo created some years ago. It was created with the fundamental concepts of getting the cleanest clothes possible while saving these items’ integrity during each wash cycle.
At that time, they made a unique, innovative detergent that was unlike anything else of its age. It was initially called “Cot’n Wash” and ranked #1 in the ’80s as a revolutionary liquid detergent.
With a new era on the horizon and things, ever-changing Cot’n Wash decided to rebrand. Thus, a new concept began to develop, the idea of getting rid of the sticky, messy liquid detergent and utilizing a small dissolvable pack loaded with all the cleaning power and gentle components of the liquid.
With that, Dropps was born. They are the first company to implement this idea, the first company to have laundry detergent pods.
Dropps Laundry Pod Ingredients
Dropps was made honestly with the environment in mind as well as the consumer. They offer an unscented, plant-based detergent that is so kind to folks such as my child and me with sensitive skin.
Their formula contains the following ingredients:
- Sodium carbonate – Cleaning agent
- Poly sodium salt – Polymer
- Sodium percarbonate – Oxidant
- Trisodium citrate dihydrate – Chelating agent
- Alkoxylated alcohol – Surfactant, this is the primary cleaning agent.
- Subtilisin – Enzyme, an added stain-fighting ingredient.
- Silicic acid, sodium salt – Chelating agent, which helps dissolve minerals and reduce discoloration.
- Tetraacetylethylenediamine – Oxidant
- Alpha-amylase – An Enzyme that aids in removing stains.
- Polyvinyl alcohol film (PVOH) – This is the synthetic water-soluble film that holds all the detergent in the pod.
How To Use Dropps Laundry Pods
Using Dropps Laundry Pods is about as simple as it gets. There is no measuring and no fuss, but best of all, there is no mess! You simply toss the pod into the washer drum or pod holder. If you have a newer model washing machine, many of them will have the “pods” button.
Do Dropps laundry pods work?
I believe it does. True to its hype, it deserves the credit. Being a leader in the industry, they got it right the first time, and others have learned from them. It left my clothes not only clean but soft and untinged by the wash cycle. It’s also good for delicate clothes.
Is Dropps safe?
Very much so. They are some of the best eco-friendly laundry products. Dropps contains natural ingredients, that reduce single-use plastic and is dye-free. In a rating by the EWG, they won, hands down. Dropps meet the EPA safer choice standards, which is not an easy standard to meet!
As an added plus, they are free of the protein enzymes that can cause damage to your clothes’ fibers. Overall, they are a safe, relatively eco-responsible product.
Who is Dropps best suited for?
I would say it is suited for everyone. They are a great price, and they are powerful. Most of all, they deliver a clean/fresh finished product. I have used it on many different loads of laundry, from my plain white tees to our camping sleeping bags. Dropps cuts the dirt and leaves your garments smelling fresh and ready for their next use.
Is Dropps all-natural?
Although they may not have made the cut for the best eco-friendly detergents in 2021, they possess all the necessary things to qualify them as natural. They contain natural ingredients that dye-free, phthalate-free, phosphate-free, and animal cruelty-free.
What does Dropps make?
This plant-based company didn’t just stop after creating a groundbreaking pod detergent. They expanded into a variety of other eco-friendly cleaning products such as:
- Laundry Detergent

Dropps Dishwasher Pods
Dropps Dishwasher Pods are triple-action dishwashing detergents composed of mineral-based ingredients. They are made with compostable packaging that fights tough stains and leaves your dishes streak-free and shining.
Most importantly, they contain natural ingredients and are not used on any animals. Although they are free of chlorine, they still carry a hefty punch on built-up food stains.
Dropps Wool Dryer Balls
Okay, these wool dryer balls have had a massive hype on social media, so I had to try. They were excellent. I am an essential oil freak, so I added a little lavender drop to my reusable wool dryer balls, and it was life-changing.
But, here are the facts:
Pros
- Suitable for up to 10,000 loads
- Reduces wrinkles
- Eco-friendly
- Reduces dryer time
- Hypo-Allergenic
- Fragrance-free
- Reusable
Cons
- Not ideal for large loads
- They were a little loud.
- Dropps begin to come apart over time, leaving you with small fragments of wool.

Dropps Vs. Tide
Tide Pods add up to about $.25 per pod. Dropps are on average $.16 per Pod, which is a $.09 saving per pod.
Throughout my Dropps review, I have found that Tide received an F from the EWG. They do not list all their ingredients. Tide uses toxic chemicals and scent boosters to get a clean scent.
Dropps Vs. Nellie’s Laundry Soda
Nellies Pods are about $.37 per pod. With Dropps being only $.16 per pod, that is a $.21 savings per pod.
Nellies received an F with the EWG. There were some major concerns for aquatic toxicity and respiratory effects.

Dropps Vs. Ecos Laundry Detergent
Ecos averaged in at $.38 per pod, compared to Dropps, a $.22 savings per pod.
Also, ECOS received a C on their overall rating from the EWG, as there were some concerns about skin irritability and allergies.

Dropps Vs. Better Life
Better Life is a liquid detergent. However, their 64 Fl oz detergent ranges about $.61 per load, where Dropps again is about $.16, which is a $.45 savings per load!
Better Life Detergent received an A on their rating. This is a newer product on the market. It is every bit as clean as Dropps. I would say they are very comparable, but their prices are quite different.

Total Dropps Cost Savings Per Year
Ok, here is where I nerd out. On average, if you were to use Dropps and do an average of 10 loads of laundry per week (which would be a vacation in my house), that would cost you $1.60 per week. That adds up to a savings of $9.70 per week. It is saving you $504.40 per year!
How to save: Amazon is life. Their option to subscribe and save is nothing short of a miracle. Going with this hassle-free option saves you 5% on your order, which knocks the average cost down to $.15. Alright, I’m nerding again, so hang with me: that’s another $78.00 savings per year!
