Best Upright Vacuum Under $200: Shark NV352 Navigator Lift-Away Upright Vacuum
Features:
- Style: Upright
- Type of Filter: HEPA filter
- RPMs: Not provided
- Dust Bin: Bagless
- Cordless: No
- Power Cord Length: 25 feet
- Weight: 13.9 pounds
Pros:
- Bagless with a 1.1-quart dust bin
- Lift-away pod canister for versatile cleaning
- Brush roll shut off
- Swivel steering for easy navigation
- An anti-allergen complete seal filtration system
Cons:
- Top-heavy and can fall over a lot
- The canister can be difficult to remove
Shark NV352 Navigator Lift-Away Vacuum Review
Another model of the Shark Navigator Lift-Away series, the NV352 vacuum cleaner, is very similar to the NV360 model with only a few key differences. Both are upright vacuum cleaners with features like anti-allergen complete seal technology, swivel steering, life-away detachable pod, brush rolls shut off, etc. Plus, with its HEPA filter, like the NV360, the NV352 is a great option if you have allergies or even just pets (and no allergies).
Shark’s NV352 weighs slightly more than the NV360 at 14 lbs, which can make it more difficult to maneuver. It offers a wider cleaning path at 11.25-inches compared to the NV360’s 9.5-inches. However, the biggest difference is that the NV352 includes a wide upholstery tool for stubborn pet hair and two lengths of crevice tools. This allows a little more versatility in its cleaning ability, especially if you are concerned about pet hair on your furniture.
It did seem a little top-heavy, though, which causes it to fall over whenever the hose was being used. This is not necessarily a dealbreaker but does require some awareness of where you place it. Its canister also seemed a bit difficult to remove, but not impossible.
Another highly-reviewed vacuum cleaner from Shark, with a 4.6-star rating from over 15,000 reviews. You can read the Amazon reviews on our pick for the best upright vacuum here.

Vacuum Buying Guide
If you are like me, then cleaning always feels like a chore, but it was even worse when I tried to continue using and lugging around our old, heavy vacuum cleaner. When I FINALLY decided to look and purchase the best vacuum under $200, it made cleaning (well, vacuuming) significantly easier to do and manage.
One thing to note, though, what works best for me might not necessarily be the best option for you. Because of this, I have put together a vacuum buying guide below of a few things you should consider before purchasing, which will hopefully help you to determine which one you should purchase.
Price
Your budget is the first thing to consider before starting to look at vacuums. Vacuum cleaners can range widely in price from $30 to over $1,000, and it is absolutely possible to find a powerful, effective vacuum at any price.
Of course, this article covers options that make our best vacuum under $200 list. Vacuum cleaners in this range are considered “value,” but that does not mean they are inefficient or cheap. They can still give you the power, suction, and effectiveness of a more expensive vacuum, but they might have a few less nice-to-have features. All of the vacuum cleaners on our list are highly reviewed and perform well.
When purchasing a vacuum, it is always important to consider what price you are comfortable with first and then look for one in that price range with features you want.
Style
Vacuum cleaners come in a variety of style options with their own advantages and disadvantages, which can make it very difficult to determine the best vacuum for you.
- Canister Vacuums: offers more maneuverability, although the cleaning style of wands/hoses might be different than you are used to
- Stick Vacuums: Convenient storage, lightweight, and often cordless, but sometimes can be less powerful and potentially unable to stand on its own
- Handheld Vacuums: Perfect for quick cleanups or in-between cleanups, but not efficient for whole-house cleaning
- Upright Vacuums: Common style of vacuum cleaners with its powerful, strong suction and performance, but is usually heavy and takes up space
- Robot Vacuums: Convenient as a “set it and forget it” vacuum for in-between cleanings. However, it will need occasional maintenance and supervision for effective cleaning.
To decide which style of vacuum cleaners you should look at, you should consider a few key things, like the size of your home, available storage space, flooring type, what you’re using it for, and your personal strength.
Type of Filter
If you are a dog owner or suffer from common allergies, then the type of filter in the vacuums is extremely important to consider. Not vacuuming regularly with a good filtration system can allow dust particles and allergens to stay in the air. If you regularly use a vacuum with something like a HEPA filter, it can significantly reduce any harmful allergens and dust particles that might be in the air. Most common types of filters: cartridge filters, foam filters, cloth filters, disc filters, carbon-charcoal filters, and HEPA filters.
There are benefits to all of the filters. However, a HEPA filtration system removes up to 99.9% of particles and is ideal for anyone that suffers from allergies or asthma. There are quite a few bagged models that include HEPA filter options, so this is another aspect to consider. If you do not suffer from allergies but have pets, then you should consider finding a vacuum with carbon-charcoal filters. Carbon filters perform better with animal smells filtration than a HEPA filtration system.
Noise Level
Vacuums do not have to be noisy! This may not be a consideration for everyone, but if you have ever been bothered by your old vacuum or any loud noise, then the noise level of the vacuums should be considered.
Although not every single model, bagged vacuums tend to be quieter than bagless models. Regardless of whether you want a bagged or a bagless model, you should look at the vacuum’s decibels rating. If you would like a fairly quiet vacuum, then you should look for any vacuums with a noise rating that is less than 70dB.
RPMs
RPMs or “revolutions per minute” determine the power of the motor and its overall suction. Vacuums typically range from 10,000 to 30,000 RPMs, with the higher number being a more powerful motor. However, it is not always included with vacuum specifications.
Another way to compare the motors is to compare the power rating of the vacuums.
Dust Bin
This ultimately comes down to your preference between Bagged vs. Bagless:
Bagged Vacuums:
Pros:
- Often quieter than bagless models
- Easy to empty/cleanout
- More efficient filtration of allergens and dust particles
Cons:
- Some models lose suction as the bags fill
- No easy indication if the bag is full or not
- Purchasing replacement bags
Bagless Vacuums:
Pros:
- No bag replacement – environmentally friendly
- Easy to see if dust bins are full
- Washable filters
Cons:
- Dust might come up as you empty the dustbin
- Could be noisy
- Filters will still need to be replaced or cleaned regularly.
Once you have determined your preference for the dustbin, you should consider if your preferred filter type works with this as well. If you have allergies and are concerned about getting a vacuum with HEPA filters, you can find options for bagged or bagless. This list includes two bagless options with HEPA filtration systems. However, you can still find bagged vacuums with HEPA filters.
Cordless or Corded
Deciding between corded or cordless vacuums depends upon your needs in your home because there are advantages and disadvantages for both.
Cordless vacuums rely on the battery for its suction power, which often means that the suction strength would decrease as the battery depletes. However, they are designed for flexibility and convenience because of their compact size and portability (not tied or limited by a cord). This allows you to easily vacuum more inconvenient places like the stairs or your car.
On the other hand, corded vacuums plug directly into your home’s power source, which typically provides more powerful and consistent suction power. If your home is mostly carpeted or really large, then a corded vacuum might be a better option, so you do not have to worry about its battery life or suction strength.
Power Cord Length
If you decided that corded vacuums might be the better route, then you will need to consider the length of the cord. Its length will determine exactly how large your cleaning radius is because you will have to unplug and change to a new outlet constantly if not. The length of the power cord is often included in the vacuum’s specifications. Most modern vacuums will have at least a 25-foot to 30-foot cord.
If you live in a smaller home or apartment, then you may not need a really long cord to vacuum your entire place. Determining if the cord length is an important aspect or not is determined by your home’s square footage (or if moving the power cord is bothersome to you).
Weight
Considering the weight of the vacuums is another important aspect to consider. It might not seem like a big deal to carry the 15-pound vacuum around at first, but eventually, it might feel like a chore to lug it up and downstairs.
If you live on multiple stories or feel that weight is an important factor, then you should focus on finding a lightweight vacuum or at least being mindful of the total weight as you look at your options.
Final Thoughts on Buying a Vacuum Under $200
As I mentioned before, what works best for me might not be the best one for your home. The best vacuum will be the one that not only matches your budget but also meets your cleaning needs and home’s requirements. With 10 types of vacuums on this list, I am confident that there is at least one vacuum that meets your needs. For my home, I went with the Best Pet Vacuum: BISSELL Cleanview Rewind Pet Deluxe. But at some point, I am also considering picking up either the Best Handheld Vacuum or the Best Budget Vacuum for quick cleanups.
Essentially though, it is important to remember that spending more money does not mean that you will have the best vacuum. You can absolutely get a good quality, powerful vacuum cleaner for under $200. Once you have determined how much you want to spend, you just need to use this guide to determine which features are most important to you and narrow down your options from there.
✅ After going through all of the vacuums this is the one that we would buy based on all of its qualities.
